Michael Kaetterhenry, a roofer by trade, was watering his garden one day when he discovered a very simple truth about the omnipotent design the Creator has bestowed upon us. Simply put, water flow is affected by gravity. It will flow in the direction of a gravitational force. For example, water flows downhill, not uphill. Many of today's branded and/or marketed "maintenance free" or "watertight" solutions are actually misnomers and less than truthful. Any roofing system that incorporates exposed penetrations or employs the use of "caulking" are systems that are neither "maintenance free" or "watertight". The reason is simple- over time the exposed penetration or caulking will disintegrate and cause openings in the roof exterior thru which water will eventually find its way. These types of systems will require maintenance, time, and MONEY to ensure that nature has not taken advantage of the systems' weaknesses. Mother Nature WILL punish those that do not respect its laws!
